Home. The notion of a home.
Home is a confusing term; it is one of those words that mean a different thing to each person you meet.
Home is personal.
Home is intimate.
Home is sacred.
Maybe at least on those things we can agree. In addition to that, home can be a place or a person. Home can even be a mental space than no longer physically exist. Some say our body is our home. So here it is where it gets very confusing. What is home?
Before all home is a specific feeling- a feeling of belonging, of comfort (or discomfort), of cosiness (or familiarity).
We may not completely understand what home is but always know when and where we feel “at home”. This is the fun part of being a human, there is just so much we do not understand.
On one hand, if we agree that we are a spirit in a human form, then yes, our body is our home. We might even treat it as a temple the more we love it. That is also why proper nutrition is so important to us and food is vital to our survival.
On the other hand, if we are more rational and like to stick to the psychical reality, the notional of a home is very simple- it is where we currently live. Although many people do not feel that way and they have a certain nostalgia for their childhood home or their place in their homeland. Why is that we feel more connected to some places than others and what is it that prevents us from finding home in the here and now?
It is difficult to be in the here and now. We often like to go back in time to the good memories or escape in the future of what might be – a bigger house, a softer couch, a new painting… The dreams are endless but only in our imagination.
Our space as it is now; that is what is important. Some say it takes a woman to make a home out of a house. The truth is anyone can create a home. The reason why this role is often attributed to the women is because the creation of a home requires the feminine creative energy. The mere material and physical building is not enough. Home is a feeling and it needs to be nurtured.
The thing is each one of us has both feminine and masculine energy inside of us. Therefore, the only thing that is really necessary is to get connected to out creative and sensitive side to start transforming our space. I can do it, you can do, anyone can do it.
One of the biggest clichés out there is that Home is where the heart is. That is both true and not true. Home is where we are – not only mentally but physically and emotionally as well. It is important that we gather all our parts of our being and keep them in the present. Then home will be traveling with us and the physical location of where we live would only serve as a charging station.
